Source Inspection & Factory Acceptance Test Witnessing

Independent inspectors at your vendor's shop — so defects are caught before equipment ships, not after it reaches site.

Overview

What is source inspection and FAT witnessing?

Source inspection is independent verification at the vendor's or fabricator's facility that equipment and materials conform to the purchase order, specification and approved ITP before they ship. Factory acceptance test (FAT) witnessing is the part of that work where an independent inspector attends the vendor's performance tests and confirms results against the approved procedure.

Jags Assurance acts on the buyer's side — for EPC procurement teams, owners, OEM buyers and data center developers. We review the ITP and test procedures before production, inspect in process, witness FAT, review materials and test documentation, and track every deviation to verified closure. Equipment is released for shipment only against evidence, with a same-day report for each visit.

Coverage: Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, Beaumont–Port Arthur and Gulf Coast fabrication yards; Dallas–Fort Worth OEM and switchgear manufacturers; wider US on assignment. Dispatched from our Dallas office, with Houston & Gulf Coast coverage.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Delivered across North America, with India and the UAE coming soon.

What is the difference between source inspection and third-party inspection?

Source inspection is inspection carried out at the vendor's or fabricator's facility before equipment ships. Third-party inspection is the broader term for independent inspection by a party that is neither buyer nor supplier, and it can take place at the vendor, on receipt or on site. Our source inspection is a third-party service performed at the source.

What happens at a factory acceptance test, and who should witness it?

At a FAT the vendor runs agreed performance and functional tests on the finished equipment at its own facility, following an approved test procedure. Results are compared against acceptance criteria and deviations are logged. It should be witnessed by the buyer or an independent inspector acting for the buyer, so acceptance does not rest on the vendor's own word.

How quickly can you send an inspector to a Houston or DFW vendor?

In Dallas–Fort Worth, visits are typically arranged within one to three business days. For Houston and the Gulf Coast we schedule visits ahead against your hold points and test dates. Earlier notice of the FAT date makes scheduling easier.

Can you witness FAT for data center electrical equipment?

Yes. We witness Level 1 factory tests for critical power and cooling equipment such as switchgear, UPS, generators and transformers, against the approved procedure and NETA ATS or other referenced standards where specified.

What do you need from us to quote?

The purchase order, the specification, the approved ITP, the vendor's location and the expected inspection or test dates.

How is source inspection priced?

Either per visit or per man-day plus travel, or as monthly vendor surveillance for ongoing programs. We confirm the basis in a written quote before any visit.

Are you a certification or accreditation body?

Jags Assurance is an independent quality and inspection consultancy. We are not a certification or accreditation body; certificates are issued by accredited third parties.
